The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche face off in a pivotal Game 6 of their Western Conference Second-Round series on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 10:00 PM ET. The game will be televised on MAX, truTV, TNT, SN1, SN, and TVAS.
The Stars currently lead the series 3-2 and have a chance to close it out on the road. The Avalanche are slight favorites with a moneyline of -120, while the Stars are underdogs at +100. The over/under is set at 6.5 goals, with the over at +105 and the under at -125.
We’ve made our prediction for Stars vs Avs tonight, including player props to bet on.
Stars vs Avalanche Prediction
The Stars have been a dominant road team throughout the playoffs, going 4-1 away from home and outscoring their opponents 16-8 in those games. They have won both Games 3 and 4 in Denver, proving they can handle the Avalanche’s high-powered offense even in the Mile High City.
However, the Avalanche showed resilience in Game 5, overcoming a 3-1 series deficit to force Game 6 with a 5-3 victory in Dallas.
The key to this game will likely be the performance of the goaltenders. Jake Oettinger has been stellar for the Stars, posting a .963 save percentage in the two games in Denver. He has a history of bouncing back strong after losses, going 11-4 following a defeat in his playoff career.

On the other hand, Alexandar Georgiev has struggled for the Avalanche, with a .880 save percentage in the series and ranking 16th out of 19 playoff goalies in goals saved above expected per 60 minutes.
Offensively, both teams have the firepower to light up the scoreboard. The Stars have scored at least three goals in every game this series, led by Jason Robertson, Miro Heiskanen, and Wyatt Johnston.
The Avalanche, despite missing leading goal scorer Valeri Nichushkin, still have plenty of weapons in Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Cale Makar, and Artturi Lehkonen.
Ultimately, I believe the Stars will find a way to close out the series on the road. Their ability to win in Denver, coupled with Oettinger’s strong play and the Avalanche’s shaky goaltending, gives them the edge. I predict a 4-2 Stars victory in Game 6.
DAL-COL Game 6 Pick:

Stars vs Avs Odds
Team Spread Moneyline Total DAL Stars +1.5 (-250) +100 Over 6.5 (+105) COL Avalanche -1.5 (+205) -120 Under 6.5 (-125) The Avalanche are slight favorites in Game 6, with a moneyline of -120. This means a $120 bet on the Avalanche would return a profit of $100 if they win.
The Stars are underdogs at +100, meaning a $100 bet would return a profit of $100 if they win. The implied probability of an Avalanche win based on these odds is 54.55%, while the Stars have a 50% implied probability.
The over/under for total goals scored in the game is set at 6.5, with the over at +105 and the under at -125. This means oddsmakers expect a relatively high-scoring game. The over has a 48.8% implied probability based on the +105 odds, while the under has a 55.6% implied probability at -125.
The oddsmakers likely favor the Avalanche due to their home-ice advantage and the fact that they are the defending Stanley Cup champions. However, the Stars’ success on the road and Oettinger’s strong play in Denver makes them an attractive underdog bet.

Jamie Benn Over 0.5 points
Benn has been a consistent contributor for the Stars, playing on the top power-play unit and the new first line with Wyatt Johnston and Logan Stankoven. Look for him to record at least one point in Game 6.
Artturi Lehkonen Over 0.5 points
With Nichushkin out, Lehkonen has taken on a bigger role on the top line with MacKinnon and has been a key contributor on the power play. He had a multi-point game in Game 5 and has six goals in 10 playoff games.
Cale Makar Over 3.5 shots on goal
Makar has been a dominant force for the Avalanche, leading all defensemen with five goals in the playoffs. He’s averaging over four shots per game in the series and should continue to be aggressive in Game 6.
Stars vs Avalanche Injury Report
The most significant injury heading into Game 6 is to Stars center Roope Hintz, who missed Game 5 with an upper-body injury and has been ruled out for Game 6. Hintz has been instrumental in slowing down the Avalanche’s top line, and his absence was felt in Game 5. The Stars will need to find a way to contain MacKinnon and company without their top defensive center.
Roope Hintz will not play for the Stars tonight. Pete DeBoer said he's hopeful for a Game 7 or the next round, whatever is next.

For the Avalanche, forward Valeri Nichushkin remains out after entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. His absence has been notable, as he leads the team with nine goals in the playoffs. Forward Yakov Trenin is also day-to-day with an upper-body injury after leaving Game 5 in the first period.
While both teams are missing key players, the loss of Hintz could be more impactful for the Stars, given his defensive responsibilities against the Avalanche’s top line. However, if Oettinger continues his strong play and the Stars’ depth players step up, they have a good chance of closing out the series in Game 6.
