The Golden State Warriors (26-25, 14-13 home, ATS) are finally starting to look like the team that was among the top-five NBA title favorites on opening night. The Dubs are currently riding a season-best five-game win streak (tied with Boston and Dallas for the longest current streak in the NBA) as they welcome the LA Clippers to the Chase Center on Wednesday evening at 7:10 pm PT/10:10 pm ET.
The Clippers, who are coming off an ugly 121-100 home loss to Minnesota, will have to make do without Kawhi Leonard on Wednesday, as the team’s leading scorer is out with an adductor strain. Also missing Bones Hyland and PJ Tucker, the shorthanded Clippers head to the Bay Area as 2.5-point underdogs.

Showcasing just how dire Golden State’s situation had become, even after their five-game win streak, the team is barely in the Western Conference playoff picture. If the postseason started today, the #10 Warriors would face the #9 LA Lakers in the Play-In portion of the NBA playoff bracket.
The Clippers had the chance to takeover top spot in the West from the Timberwolves last time out, but that home setback – coupled with OKC’s win at Orlando last night – dropped LAC back to third. They would face the #6 New Orleans Pelicans if the playoffs started today.
Warriors Rout Jazz to Make It Five in a Row
On Monday, I wrote that Golden State’s game against Utah – which was listed as a pick’em – might be bettors’ last chance to buy low on a Warriors team that’s finally putting the pieces together. Golden State dominated the proceedings almost from the jump, leaving Salt Lake City with a dominant 129-107 victory thanks to a consummate team effort. Eight different players scored in double-ps, led by a welcome 26 from Klay Thompson, who hadn’t hit 20 points in his five previous games.
Draymond Green put in a vintage performance, adding 12 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, a block, and a steal in just 23 minutes. As has often been the case for the Warriors over the past decade, it’s the play of Green that turns them from a dangerous team to a dominant one.
Golden State still sits outside the top ten in both Offensive Rating (117.5, 11th) and Defensive Rating (116.1, 18th), but they have been steadily rising up both rankings over the past two weeks.
Steph Curry (28.0 PPG, 4.9 APG, 4.4 RPG) had 25 points in the win over Utah, the 11th time in the past 13 games he’s scored at least 25. He was 7-of-16 from beyond the arc, marking his third straight game with at least seven triples. He’s been a lights-out 74-of-151 (49%) from beyond the arc in his last 11 games.

Clippers Drop a Critical Game to Minnesota at Home
On Monday, LA had a chance to put itself somewhere it hasn’t been all season: atop the Western Conference standings. Just a half game back of #1 Minnesota, the Clippers entered Monday’s contest as 4.5-point home favorites. All went according to play in the first half as LAC opened a 54-49 lead by the break. But a horrendous third quarter – which saw the T-Wolves outscore the Clippers 41-19 – propelled Minnesota to a 121-100 victory. None of the Clippers managed to hit 20 points and they shot a horrendous 34-of-84 (40.5%) from the field.
Kawhi Leonard (24.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG) managed just 18 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes. After the game, it was revealed he suffered a left adductor strain that will keep him out of Wednesday’s game at Golden State. As has been the case for most of the season, the Clippers will also be without Bones Hyland (19 games played) and PJ Tucker (12 games played) in Wednesday’s NBA lineups.
Despite the ugly loss to Minnesota, the Clippers still sit third in the NBA in Offensive Rating (119.6) and fifth in Net Rating (+5.4).

Curry, per usual, has the highest total for the Warriors (and the game) at over/under 28.5 points. With Leonard out, Paul George (who’s averaging 22.4 PPG) has an inflated point total of 25.5 while James Harden (17.3 PPG) has been bumped up to 20.5.
LA Clippers vs Golden State Warriors Prediction
While I was right about the Warriors taking down the Jazz on Monday, I was wrong that it would be the last chance to buy (relatively) low on the Dubs. With the Clippers missing their leading scorer and lynchpin, the Warriors should be more than 2.5-point favorites. Curry and Green are still proving that they are near the height of their effectiveness, and even if Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins aren’t the players they used to be, their are enough supporting pieces on the Golden State roster to stick with the best. Jonathan Kuminga, in particular, has emerged as the effective frontcourt presence the roster had been missing for some time.
LAC vs GSW pick: Warriors -2.5 (-110) – two units
