Inter Miami surprised everyone by announcing that DeAndre Yedlin, one of the club’s captains, would be moving on to join Cincinnati. The news broke late on Sunday and was confirmed by Cincy the following day. Now, with the obligation to continue By building a team that can dominate United States soccer, the Herons would already have a replacement for the American full-back.

DeAndre has been a leader for us on and off the field, and we’re very thankful for everything he has done for Inter Miami. I’ve known him since his academy days in Seattle, and have been proud to see his success here, including helping the team lift its first trophy,” said Inter Miami’s sporting director Chris Henderson via a statement.

He added, “This trade gives us the flexibility to continue building our roster. Our ambitions remain high and we will look to use the space created by this move to improve our squad as we aim to compete for titles”.

Inter Miami battling on two fronts

It appears that the Herons decided to move quickly. MLS teams are eligible to make new signings until the transfer deadline on 23 April. There is some urgency as the team is already full immersed in competition, with both the domestic league and the CONCACAF Champions Cup fully underway.

Marcelo Weigandt, from Boca Junios to Miami

It has since emerged that Boca Juniors right-back Marcelo Weigandt has informed his club that he will not renew his contract (which expires in December). The Argentine defender is also believed to have told his superiors that he has an offer from Inter Miami and that MLS would be his next destination.

Chelo Weigandt accepted the proposal from Inter Miami. He made the decision to play in the MLS. The club made an offer to Boca to go now and not leave free. A compensatory p because Weigandt is not going to renew anyway,” reported TyC Sports journalist Gastón Edul, on social media.
