Betway Premier League Darts: Mouth-watering World Championship rematch on Night 1

Phil Taylor has a chance for revenge on opening night in Leeds

Following today’s announcement of the Betway Premier League Darts fixture list, the fans in Leeds will be treated to the eagerly anticipated, opening night re-match between Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor after their PDC World Championship Final bout.

Only the fourth final in history to go all the way to a deciding 13th set, the back and forth contest at Alexandra Palace ended with Anderson denying Taylor his much-craved 17th title. And now, The Power will have the chance for immediate revenge.

However, the Flying Scotsman has proven something of a bogeyman for the 16-time world champion of late..  In their first Betway Premier League meeting of the 2014 season at Exeter’s Westpoint Arena, during a patchy run of form for the Power, Phil lost 7-5 to Anderson to fall to the bottom of the table. In their second duel during Week 12, he threw away his chance of redemption by allowing the Scot back into the game on two occasions, with the match ending in a draw.

Despite a victory over Anderson since then in the Players’ Championship Quarter-Finals, Taylor has been topped by Anderson in the Masters, and most recently in the World finals thriller. Can the Power get his revenge?

Elsewhere, the opening night gets underway with fan favourite Dave ‘Chizzy’ Chisnall facing the flamboyant Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright, defending champion Raymond van Barneveld begins the defence of his trophy against Adrian Lewis, new entry Kim Huybrechts takes on the mighty MVG and  debutant Stephen ‘The Bullet’ Bunting closes proceedings against returning challenger James Wade.
